A really good night in the lift workers car park just above the lift. Up at eight to check the weather , there was a hint of blue sky and you could see the mountain tops so after breakfast it’s open the top box get the ski stuff and make the short walk to the ticket office and buy a day pass for 21 euro’s each :)
The was a huge queue waiting by the four seat lift as every French person in the resort was making the most of Bonneval final day of the season and there must have been at least 50 !!!! and we were the only English in the whole place :)Bonneval-sur-Arc’s ski range from 1800 to 3000 m and considering now late it is the snow was in okay condition, abit icy and bumpy as the piste basher man must have been looking forward to the end of the season and could have tried harder. We had skied every run by mid day as it’s only a small resort with only 7 lifts, the Aigion piste from the top of the Pointe D’Andagne was best !!! We saw marmot’s a couple of times ,once one ran across the piste in front of us as we were the first down that run and once a couple were sitting on a large rock watching the skiers :)It then started to snow really hard so we headed down to the only mountain restaurant at the top of the Vallonnet lift expecting it to be packed because of the bad weather, we were pleasantly surprised to find it nearly empty and found a seat by the window with under bench heating :)We the managed to eat and drink far too much but it was very good and the waitress was lovelly !!! After an hour and it still snowing hard we headed back to the van and as we were dressed in our ski gear we decided to walk along the snowy river to the fist bridge. We sat under a rock ledge by the river watching the huge snow flakes fall :) Nearing the village on the road on the way back the snow stopped and the sun came out and all the snow quickly disappeared from the tress :(
I decided to make the most of my lift pass and went up for the last hour but on reaching the top of the very slow Vallonnet lift to find everything was closed expect the Mulinet button !!! so I had an hour making tracks down the side of the button and I tried going off piste and ended up in three feet of snow and had a job to get out !!! I was now getting very tired and as the lift was closing headed back to the van.
We backed away the ski gear and headed down the valley ,we got to Val Cenis (what a crap place to ski that is) and saw that the Col du Mont Cenis is now open so we decide to have a look at lac du Mont Cenis. The drive up was fantastic and the Col was good all covered in snow but the lac was a cold and barren looking place so we drove to Aussois and park up just above the village just along from the ski lifts !!!
